About Us

Retrofurb was set up by Ruairi Kay in 2020 to offer specialist retrofit services and advice to homeowners, focusing on a “whole house approach” to retrofit. Services offered include: Whole house retrofit plans, BER assessments, SEAI grant technical assessments, design, planning applications, specification, tender coordination, project management as well as specialist retrofit consultancy.

Ruairi Kay is an Architectural Technologist with 16 year experience in Ireland and the UK, specialising in low energy design and retrofit. He graduated from Cork Institute of Technology in 2004 and worked for a large design led practice in Cork. In 2007 he moved UK to work at Energy Conscious Design in London, before starting his own architecture practice to focus on low energy design, Passivhaus and retrofit projects. While in the UK he also completed a masters in “Architecture: Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies” and qualified as a “Retrofit Coordinator”. 

Ruairi has also worked as a Retrofit Co-coordinator with a one stop shop retrofit cooperative in the UK, (Retrofitworks). Since returning to Ireland he has qualified as a BER assessor and is an SEAI registered technical assessor.

Retrofurb is based in West Cork and works throughout Cork county and city.
