A Domestic BER, (Building Energy Rating) is an indication of the energy performance of a home. It covers energy use for space heating, water heating, ventilation and lighting calculated on the basis of standard occupancy. A BER is similar to the energy label for a household electrical appliance like your fridge. The label has a scale of A-G. A-rated homes are the most energy efficient and will have the lowest energy bills.
A BER is required when and existing dwelling is sold or rented or when a new dwelling is built for sale. BER assessments are also required to validate certain home energy retrofit measures that are funded through the SEAI grant schemes.
A Domestic BER involves a detailed survey of your home; including measuring of the building footprint, glazing levels & types, the building’s construction and an investigation into the heating systems. This data is then entered into the Dwelling Energy Assessment Procedure, (DEAP) software and lodged with the national database to produce the BER rating and certificate.
We are registered as a BER assessor with SEAI and carry the necessary €1,300,000 professional indemnity insurance and €6,500,000 public/products liability insurance.
